The Young And Arrested
Seriously? What’s wrong with this guy?
Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young was arrested for the third time…THIS WEEK!
Last Sunday, Young was arrested in the middle of the night for driving under the influence. Then, later THAT SAME DAY, he was arrested AGAIN for trying to take his car from the impound lot. This time, on Friday (Yes, five days after he was arrested…twice…just hours apart), he was arrested yet again for allegedly breaking into a home in the OC – Don’t call it that (Arrested Development…anyone?). I guess Orange County is as good a place as any if you are looking to rob someone of quality valuables, but that’s neither here nor there. Apparently, Young then ran from police and engaged in a physical altercation when they caught up with him (Insert ‘evading tacklers’ joke here, followed by groaning and eye-rolling). When it was all said and done, he was charged with attempted burglary, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Why is he even resisting arrest anyway? He seems to love it.
Titus…what in the world are you thinking? I know your ex-teammate Calvin Johnson just broke the record for most receiving yards in a season, but if you think breaking the record for most times arrested in a single week is going to overshadow his accomplishments, you’re wrong. Way to go blowing what was once a promising future of getting paid millions to play a game for a living. The saddest part – I’m sure some desperate franchise will give you another chance down the road after you’ve shown how much you’ve changed and learned from your mistakes and blah, blah, blah (Don’t even think about it, Steelers…one ex-con wide receiver is more than enough).
So what is this guy doing? At this point, I’d have to guess he doesn’t even know what he’s doing. In all seriousness, I think he needs to have a psychological evaluation. There has to be something wrong with his head. There’s no way a healthy, fully-functioning adult acts the way he’s been acting. It’s not like this kind of behavior from Young is out of the blue, but three times in one week? This is getting silly.
Young always had plenty of talent, but was never mistaken for a quality guy. After the Lions cut him at the end of this past season, the St. Louis Rams claimed him off waivers to see if they could work with him. The lowly Rams went on to cut him after just 10 days. 10 DAYS! Actually, that’s kind of a long time if you think about in terms of it being two entire arrest-cycles for Young.
The important question to consider now?
Is getting cut by the RAMS or attempting burglary the bigger offense?
